SECUREHACKS 2021: FEB 20-21, 2021

SecureHacks is a virtual Hackathon that encourages high-school students from around the world to develop solutions that will help increase our personal security online. Within the span of 36 hours, you and your team will work together to develop functional prototypes of digital solutions aimed towards solving the challenges society encounters among these difficult times. There will be workshops, keynote presentations, interactive activities, and mentors to assist your creation along every step of the way. Near the end, you will virtually present your prototype to a team of judges, all of whom are experienced individuals in the cybersecurity industry.

ABOUT XDHACKS MINI:

XdHacks Mini is a global high-school Hackathon organization dedicated towards hosting high-school Hackathons to inspire more youth to be engaged with the field of STEAM. Our events are where individuals come together and use technology to transform their ideas into reality in an attempt to create a feasible solution towards solving a relevant, real-world problem.

At XdHacks Mini, one of our core values is in teaching students of the importance of interdisciplinary learning in the modern technology industry. Our focus on students developing an interdisciplinary mindset sets us apart from other Hackathon organizations. We highlight the significance of soft skills such as presenting a pitch, in tandem with hard skills like coding. We believe entrepreneurship, in addition to having a deep foundation within a skill like coding, sets students up best for the future.

Eligibility

PARTICIPATION ELIGIBILITY:

  • Individuals in grades 6-12. (Participants must provide proof if requested)
  • Team size of 1-5 people. (XdHacks Mini Vancouver will help create teams for those looking for teams.)
  • Citizens of any country in the world (as legally permissible in their country)

Requirements

SUBMISSIONS OPEN: Feb. 20 9:00AM PST

SUBMISSIONS CLOSE: Feb. 21 3:00PM PST

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Unlike the previous iterations of XdHacks Mini, participants will not pitch or present their project for this online hackathon. However, participants are strongly encouraged to create a slideshow about their product to go along with the video. Their product should be a prototype, user interface and front end development are not necessary for submitting a successful project. Even if the program itself isn’t finished, that is fine. Your submission should simply show your thinking process when tackling the theme, and illustrate how you plan to tackle the theme of with the beginnings of your solution. However, this is not a case competition and we want to see some practical work/coding done!

In order to be eligible for a prize, your team must:

  • Submit a video demo less than 5 minutes long.
  • Provide your code in a some sort of public repository

NOTE: SecureHacks 2021 is a weekend hackathon -> coding of projects before the start of the hackathon is not permitted and teams will not be eligible for prizes.
